For Yvonne Garcia, four years in the U.S. Army, set her on a path where computers, an aptitude for mathematics, a love of learning and determination has allowed her to flourish in the field of Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Yvonne is a Senior CAD Designer at Hoskin Ryan where her duties include, working closely with Project Managers to prepare civil construction plans for street, drainage, water, wastewater, grading, site layouts and utility plans and help coordinate multiple projects.
In the Army Yvonne worked in the area of electronic warfare, where she learned discipline, focus and the art of being a self-starter.
“My military background opened a lot of doors for me,” Yvonne said.
Over the years Yvonne has leveraged her education in Information Technology, with her experience in Manufacturing Technology and design to become a well-respected and experienced CAD Designer. She is proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation and ArcGIS.
Yvonne continues to learn and develop with the constant introduction of new and better software to do her job.
Her career has included positions at design and consulting firm, Stantec, Intel, the Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCDMC) and Gila River Public Works Department.
“I’m sure that I mapped 85 percent of Maricopa County when I was at Flood Control,” Yvonne laughed.
Nestled between Phoenix and Tempe, Yvonne was raised in Guadalupe, AZ, where the town recognizes its roots in the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. She is mom to three children and praises her husband for being the “stay at home” dad while she advanced her career. He is now living his dream as a stand-up comedian!
