Southern Avenue Storm Drain
Southern Avenue, in the vicinity between 24th and 32nd Streets, has experienced localized flooding from watersheds that originate within South Mountain. Through our ongoing engineering services on-call with the City of Phoenix, Hoskin Ryan was charged with the task of designing an upgraded storm sewer system consisting of larger pipe sizes and upgraded catch basin inlet capacities. After a detailed hydrologic analysis of the area, followed by an evaluation of the existing system, it was determined that the capacity of the downstream storm drain system is a limiting factor. Existing pipes will be replaced with new larger pipes that follow the existing alignments, significantly reducing utility conflicts, and avoiding potential costs.
Project Requirements / Unique Characteristics:
- Solution had to be Within a Reduced Construction Budget
- Close Proximity to Many Key Existing Trunk Utility Lines
- Limited Project Timeline
