Cottonwood Creek

Streambank erosion along a section of Cottonwood Creek in Allen was threatening the integrity of a popular city trail, a large wastewater line, and the home of a local resident. Huitt-Zollars developed a solution consisting of a cast-in-place reinforced concrete retaining wall to stop the erosion and provide permanent protection to the city’s infrastructure. Acting fast to prevent a catastrophic bank slope failure from occurring Huitt-Zollars worked closely with City staff to develop final bid documents only 67 days after receiving the Notice to Proceed. This project won the 2016 Texas Public Works Association Project of the Year award for the Disaster or emergency Construction/Repair category.
